Shoplifting Suspect Arrested: Theft at Eagan Ralph Lauren

EAGAN, MINNESOTA —On March 17, 2024, at around 6:30 PM, the Eagan Police were called to the Polo Ralph Lauren at the Eagan Outlet Mall for a reported theft.

According to court records, a loss prevention officer reported seeing two suspects in the store who took four items into the dressing room. After a long time in the dressing room, the two came out with only one item of clothing left, and they walked out of the store without attempting to pay for the suspected concealed items they were wearing underneath their clothes.

Surveillance from the store was shown to Eagan Police officers, who were able to describe the two individuals to other officers. At around 7 PM, another officer with the Eagan Police Department spotted the two suspects based on that description heading toward the Eagan Transit Station. The officer stopped the two suspects and spoke with them.

According to the court records, the male suspect, later identified as Marvel Dear, denied the theft to the officer. Dear then reportedly stated, "So if I give the shirt back, then what happens." After this point, Dear reportedly became noticeably agitated and began to walk away from officers, which was when officers placed him under arrest. At this point, Dear admitted to stealing a jacket, shirt, and pants that he was wearing. After being given his Miranda warning, he again admitted to stealing the jacket, shirt, and pair of pants from Polo Ralph Lauren. He reportedly also admitted that he never planned to pay for the merchandise and stole the items for his Fentanyl addiction.

The total value of the merchandise was around $547.00.

Court records show a "stay of imposition" was given as Marvel Dear pleaded guilty to gross misdemeanor theft—value over $500 but less than $1,001. According to court records, he was sentenced to four days in Dakota County Jail and a two-year term of probation. He has also been banned from the Eagan Outlet Mall. Court records show the Eagan City Attorney's Office handled this case.
