APPLE VALLEY, MINNESOTA—
On Wednesday, April 10, 2024, around 4:24 PM, fireworks were set off near Palomino Park in Apple Valley, Minnesota. At around 4:30 PM, the Apple Valley Fire Department and Apple Valley Police Department were called for a reported grass fire at Palomino Park. Calls were received by a passerby and by witnesses who were at the park at the time the fireworks had gone off. We spoke with the three witnesses at the scene, and they said that someone was burning something just up the hill. While they were burning, they set off fireworks. The fire started in the woods adjacent to the property, where the fireworks were set off just behind the basketball court at Palomino Park.

Law enforcement stated that the fire looked illegal as it was large, outside a fire pit, and contained garbage/tires. Apple Valley Police Department has confirmed
two citations were issued due to the fire for Recreation Fires Violation and an Unreasonable Amount of Smoke from Recreational Fires.

Thanks to the quick actions of the young men who witnessed the fire start and immediately called 911 and the passersby, the Apple Valley Fire Department arrived quickly and got the fire under control.
