Fatal Single-Vehicle Rollover in Mendota Heights

MENDOTA HEIGHTS, MINNESOTA - In this third and final update on a story we previously published, UPDATED: Single-vehicle rollover in Mendota Heights, MN was fatal, we have learned from the Minnesota State Patrol that this accident sadly was fatal.

Around 3:42 PM on Saturday, September 2, 2023, 911 operators received reports of a single-vehicle accident with injuries on Highway 149 (Dodd Road) near Bachelor Avenue in Mendota Heights, Minnesota.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, a 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe was traveling on Highway 149 (Dodd Road) near Bachelor Avenue in Mendota Heights, Minnesota when the vehicle left the roadway and rolled into a light pole. Minnesota State Patrol and Officials with the Mendota Fire Department stated there were two occupants in the Tahoe. The driver of the Tahoe was transported to Regional Hospital, while the passenger declined to be transported. The driver, 44-year-old Edward Taddiken of Mendota Heights, later passed away from injuries caused in the accident at Regions Hospital.

According to Mendota Heights Officials, during the rollover crash, the Tahoe collided and broke the light pole causing a significant power outage in the area. During the power outage, a 911 call came out for an individual stuck in the elevator at 1320 Riverside Lane, which additional Mendota Fire Department personnel responded to. Xcel Energy temporarily restored power on Saturday evening around 4:30 PM, but on Sunday another power outage occurred as they were replacing the pole from the initial accident. During the second power outage, another person once again became stuck in the elevator at 1320 Riverside Lane with Mendota Heights Fire Department personnel responding for help.

The responding agencies to this accident were the Mendota Heights Fire Department, Mendota Heights Police Department, West Saint Paul Police Department, M Health Ambulance, and the Minnesota State Patrol.
