Fatal Head-On Crash on MN 55 in Nininger Twp.

NININGER TOWNSHIP, MINNESOTA - The Minnesota State Patrol reports that around 6:14 PM on Friday, September 1, 2023, a serious two-vehicle crash occurred on Highway 55 between Mississippi Trail and Horner Avenue in the township of Nininger, Minnesota. The crash was located about 4 miles west of Hastings, Minnesota.

According to the incident report, a Kia Rondo was traveling eastbound on Highway 55 when it crossed over into the westbound lanes of Highway 55 traveling the wrong way and hitting a Honda CR-V head-on that was traveling westbound on Highway 55. According to initial reports, at least one person was entrapped in a vehicle and one was ejected from a vehicle. Emergency personnel on the scene were reporting at least five total patients.

Hastings Fire Department, Dakota County Sheriff's Office, and Rosemount Police Department were initially called out to the scene of the crash with mutual aid being provided by Rosemount Fire Department. Minnesota State Patrol was called to the scene for accident reconstruction and Life Link was also requested to the scene.

The Minnesota State Patrol reports that the 54-year-old driver of the Kia Rondo from Hastings, Minnesota died as a result of his injuries in the crash. The four victims in the Honda CR-V, ages ranging between 54 to 73 years old, were transported to Regions with non-life-threatening injuries. Everyone was reported to be wearing seat belts in the crash and no alcohol was involved.
