Several Area Fire Departments Respond to Second Alarm House Fire in Bloomington
BLOOMINGTON, MINNESOTA—At around 8:20 PM on Friday, May 3, 2024, emergency responders were dispatched to reports of a structure fire erupted in the 5300 block of River Bluff Curve in Bloomington, Minnesota. The incident prompted a quick upgrade to a second alarm, with mutual aid from several surrounding area fire departments.
According to officials from the Bloomington Fire Department, the fire was under control by around 9 PM, with several fire crews remaining at the scene to help extinguish hot spots. Officials reported that no one was home at the time of the fire, and there were no injuries to report. Three pets were in the house at the time of the fire, and all three were accounted for. Officials and neighbors struggled to capture one dog seen running around the home and away from fire officials and neighbors trying to capture it. Eventually, they were able to get the dog. Outside of being shaken and scared, it looked to be okay.
By around 9:45 PM, fire officials reported that the fire was officially out. Crews were actively working to pick up and clear the scene. Fire investigators remained on scene as they worked to determine a possible cause of the fire. After speaking with some of the neighbors, they reported hearing a few loud booms or “explosions” before coming out to see the garage on fire. According to neighbors, the two vehicles in the garage were older vehicles and were not assumed to be electric.
Eden Prairie, Richfield, and Burnsville Fire Departments provided mutual aid for this fire, as the Eagan Fire Department provided station coverage for the Bloomington Fire Department while they were at the fire scene. Allina Health Medics were also there. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. We will provide an update once more information is made available.
