Stunning Northern Lights display across the Upper Midwest last night

Video captured by Doug Kiesling of StormChasingVideo.com from central Minnesota

If you stayed up last night to watch the lights, you were in for quite the treat! A stunning Northern Lights display was visible across Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, and the Dakotas last night. Reports were coming in all over the Upper Midwest from Duluth and central Minnesota, the Keweenaw Peninsula and Mackinaw City in Michigan, Green Bay, Eau Claire, and Lacrosse in Wisconsin. They were visible starting late in the evening on Saturday, September 3rd into the early morning hours of Sunday, September 4th.

What caused these and can I see them tonight?

The Lights activity last night was due to a Moderate G2 geomagnetic storm from the sunspot +CH20. While the activity might be weaker tonight, Sunday into Monday, there is a chance you could still see them across parts of the Upper Midwest if there are clear skies. Taking a look at the latest model data, there will be a very good chance that much of Minnesota, Wisconsin, and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan could be clear once it gets dark enough!

Did you capture the Northern Lights last night? We would love to see them!
