Two Charged Following Fatal Shooting in South St. Paul

SOUTH ST PAUL, MINNESOTA - Dakota County Attorney Kathy Keena announced today that they have charged two individuals, 22-year-old Tre Iglesias and 20-year-old Andrew Fisher, in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred in South St Paul on Friday, November 24, 2023, that resulted in the death of 26-year-old Avonte Troy King from South St. Paul. Minnesota.
According to the criminal complaint released by the Dakota County Attorney's Office, around 4:50 PM on Friday, November 24, 2023, officers with the South St. Paul Police Department responded to a weapons call at a residence in the 400 block of 3rd Avenue South in South St. Paul, Minnesota. Officers were advised that there was one person who was shot and was bleeding. When Officers got to the scene, they found Mr. King lying in the road with a gunshot wound to the chest. Mr. King reportedly did not have a pulse and was transported to Region's Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Mr. King was then transported to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office, where a preliminary autopsy found he died from a single gunshot wound to the chest.
As Officers began investigating the incident, they found a blue iPhone with the name "King" on the lock screen of Mr. King and a debit card with no name next to him. Officers conducted interviews with three witnesses from the scene of the incident. One witness stated they heard someone yell, "Shoot him." The witness saw three people walking quickly down the street: two younger males with another male behind them, who would later be identified as Mr. King. The witness watched as one of the males turned around and shot Mr. King with what they described as a black handgun that looked like a "cop gun." Mr. King fell to the ground, and the two younger males ran into an older black colored Chevy sedan that was parked near the shooting scene. The shooter was reported to be the one who drove. The witness reported they called 911 and began to give Mr. King aid while he was lying in the street. They did not see a gun on Mr. King. The witness described the two suspects as black males in their mid-twenties, wearing black/grey or dark-colored hoodies.
A second witness told police they heard someone shout, "Shoot him, F****** Shoot Him." They heard something go off, and that was when they called 911.
A third witness told police they were coming up 5th Street to pull into their parking spot when they saw a black sedan back onto 5th Street and turn to go down southbound 3rd Avenue South with two people in the vehicle. The driver was identified as a black male with mid-length dreads.
Later on Friday, November 24th, 22-year-old Tre Iglesias reported to law enforcement that he was present during the incident that occurred earlier in the day. According to the criminal complaint, Mr. Iglesias told police he and 20-year-old Andrew Fisher were friends. Mr. Fisher stayed at Mr. Iglesias's house over the last week. He reports they both went to a residence on 3rd Avenue South in his car, and while they were inside the residence, Mr. Fisher took a bag of marijuana from the table and ran out. Mr. Iglesias followed Fisher, with Mr. King following behind them. While outside, Mr. Fisher turned and shot Mr. King, with both young men running into Mr. Iglesias's car, with Mr. Iglesias driving them away from the scene and dropping Mr. Fisher to Cambridge and dropping him off. In a later interview, Mr. Iglesias changed his story and said it wasn't him who drove but another witness who drove Mr. Fisher to Cambridge, as Mr. Iglesias had just ridden along. While the witness was driving, Mr. Fisher admitted to shooting someone and told the witness to keep their mouth shut. That was when Mr. Iglesias contacted the police and told them he was involved in the incident.
This final witness was interviewed by police, who said they were friends with Mr. Iglesias and were at his residence when he and Mr. Fisher showed up on Friday, November 24th. Mr. Fisher asked the witness for a ride to Cambridge, and they agreed to drive them. Before they left, Mr. Fisher changed his clothes from the grey ripped jeans and black top he was originally wearing. During the drive, Mr. Fisher admitted to shooting someone.
Following this interview, police obtained search warrants and executed them on Mr. Iglesias's car and residence. In his car, police found a document with Mr. Fisher's name on the passenger rear floorboard, a document with Mr. Iglesias's name on it in the driver's side rear floor, a Beretta BB handgun under the front passenger's seat, and a social security card, birth certificate, and insurance documents for Mr. Iglesias in the center console. During the search of Mr. Iglesias's residence, police found a black iPhone with a cracked screen behind the living room couch, a pair of "Man" jeans with tears located behind the living room couch, a loaded handgun magazine located in the front pants pocket of the "Man" jeans, a black wallet containing Fisher's ID located on the floor next to the "Man" jeans, an empty Taurus gun box located in a duffle bag found in the front bedroom closet, two black hooded sweatshirts located in the back bedroom, and an empty gun safe located on the floor behind the living room couch.
Both Andrew Fisher and Tre Iglesias were charged with one felony count of second-degree intentional murder and one felony count of second-degree unintentional murder (while committing a felony). Those both come with a sentence of 3 to 40 years. In their first court appearances today, the bond for Mr. Fisher was set at $1 million without conditions ($750,000 with conditions), and Mr. Iglesias's bond was set at $750,000 without conditions ($500,000 with conditions) by Judge Shawn Moynihan. Their next court appearance will be on December 12, 2023, at 1:30 PM in Hastings, Minnesota. The criminal charges are not evidence of guilt. A defendant/suspect is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
