Honoring Lives Lost: Waukesha Parade Memorial Dedication and Live Stream

WAUKESHA, WISCONSIN - On the second anniversary of the parade tragedy, the City of Waukesha will be holding a dedication for the Main Street Parade Memorial to honor the lives lost and support those who are still suffering within the community. The dedication will be this evening, Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at 4:39 PM. The ceremony will be held at the Five Points Intersection in Downtown Waukesha, Wisconsin, near the address of 279 West Main Street. You can find a link to our live stream of this dedication at the top of this article.

Healing Hearts and The United for Waukesha Resiliency Center will reportedly provide for anyone who needs support or resources during the dedication. Educators Credit Union will also be on-site handing out blue glow bracelets.

After the dedication ceremony, everyone is invited to engrave a clay tile at The Clarke Hotel in their Banquet room. The clay tiles are part of the Waukesha Strong Tile Project and will be placed in The Parade Memorial at Grede Park. Each tile costs $25, with the proceeds from each tile going to the Parade Memorial Fund. The City of Waukesha Parade Memorial Commission set up this fund. There will be two more public tile events, one on Saturday, March 9th, 2024, at the Waukesha Public Library and one To Be Determined summer event.

According to the City of Waukesha website, no vehicles can park along the roads in the closure area shown below on the map after 2 PM today, Tuesday, November 21, 2023. After 3 PM, no traffic will be allowed to enter or exit the event area until the event is over.

The attack occurred at 4:39 PM on November 21, 2022, when 39-year-old Darrell Brooks drove an SUV at around 40 mph past barricades for the City of Waukesha Christmas parade. In the aftermath, six were killed and 62 were injured. The ages of those who were killed in this incident ranged between 8 to 81 years old.

Darrell Brooks was sentenced on November 16, 2022, with six life sentences, one for each deceased victim, 61 counts of reckless endangerment for a total of 762 years of initial confinement and 305 years of extended supervision, and six counts of hit and run, for 150 years with the reckless endangerment. These charges were all consecutive.
