Autism Acceptance Events: Sensory Egg Hunt, Patch Hunt, & Library Fun

APPLE VALLEY, MINNESOTA—The Apple Valley Police Department announced that it is celebrating Autism Acceptance in April through several sensory-friendly events. The Department also created an Autism Awareness Patch that officers wear in April.

Sensory Friendly Easter Egg Hunt

The first sensory-friendly event will be a free indoor Easter Egg Hunt at the Apple Valley Municipal Center. The event was created to give kids with Autism Spectrum Disorder an opportunity to participate in an egg hunt with their peers in a sensory-friendly environment.

The event will be from 9 to 10 AM on Saturday, March 30th. Space was limited, and pre-registration had already closed. During the Apple Valley City Hall meeting last night, the Police Chief stated around 40 people had signed up for the event, which is great to hear!

Autism Patch Hunt

Another free event that the Apple Valley Police Department is hosting is the virtual patch hunt! This event will be held from April 8 through April 12th. For this event, the special Autism Awareness Patch will be hidden in the City of Apple Valley. For those who register, one clue will be emailed out each day from April 8-12, leading you closer to where the patch is hidden. The first person to find the patch will win a $25 gift card to Target.

Coloring and Acceptance Books

On April 26th, the Galaxie Library will host a free event from 10 to 11:30 AM. During this time, you can check out the library's collection of acceptance books, coloring sheets, and puzzle pieces or create a special piece to add to their mural.
