Emerald Green Apartment Fire in Norman, Oklahoma - March 26, 2020
DONATION DROP OFF - The Emerald Green Apartment's main office is accepting donations during office hours, which are from 8:30 AM to 5 PM. 16 families were displaced, right now they are accepting any and all donations for adults, children, babies, and pets inlcuding:
•Baby boy items (He is on the way!)
•Diapers (Newborn or size 1)
•Wipes
•Men’s size 31x34 pants
•Men’s shirts (L)
•Men’s size 9 shoe
•Men’s shirts (XL)
•Men’s size 36 pants
•Men’s 8.5 shoe
•Women’s shirts (XL)
•Women’s size 14 pants
•Women’s size 10 shoes
•Maternity clothes (L/XL)
•Furnishing items can be dropped off at the clubhouse on site
Please have gently-used or new items in bags at drop off and set outside the office door. Please sanitize, if you can, prior to drop off. The office staff is working to keep the area sanitized and safe.

Just after 6:20 PM on March 26, 2020, a large fire broke out at the 2800 block of Dewey Ave where the Emerald Green Apartment complex is located. This fire was a 3rd alarm fire with several units from across Norman being called in to help. Off-duty and Little Axe fire departments were called in to cover the stations as back-ups.
A strong southerly wind made things difficult for a short period of time blowing heavy smoke and embers to the north and onto a neighboring building. During the press conference tonight, the Chief mentioned they had stationed a few units to monitor those embers to prevent any spread. No other structures were damaged. At this time the cause of the fire is unknown, but all 16 units in this building will be a total loss due to both fire and water. Investigators will be out tomorrow to inspect the possible cause. All units were occupied, but the Red Cross is on the scene helping to find temporary housing for everyone. No injuries are being reported at this time. Crews are expected to stay on the scene for several more hours as they continue to put out hot spots. A few residents who live in this complex, but did not want to provide their names, had mentioned this particular building has had a history of at least three previous fires. At this time, we can not confirm these remarks though.
Neighbors in the Emerald Green Apartment complex had mentioned setting up or possibly accepting donations. No official word has been made on this just yet. If we find out more information, we will update this article with the lastest.
UPDATE - 3/27/2020:
The fire started around apartment 105, with smoke coming from under the porch/ground floor of this unit. The first call came out around 6:18 PM.
